We are committed to building long-lasting and personal relationships with our patients. Being a boutique business means we are able to give you the attention you deserve, getting to know you, understand your needs and build a treatment approach that best suits you; and then communicate this clearly and in ways you can understand and feel confident in.

To this end we dedicate more time to our patients than anyone else in the industry, with 30 minute appointments as standard because we know that the extra time invested goes such a long way.

Getting here

Retina Specialists is located in the Birthcare Building in Parnell, near Auckland Domain and behind the Jubilee Building. It is easily accessible by buses, trains and private cars.

Private car

If you wish to come by car, there is patient parking both on street level and in the underground car park, accessible from Titoki Street. These are clearly marked for “Retina Specialists”. It is best for you not to drive yourself as your pupils are likely to be dilated during your visit.

Buses

The inner and outer Link buses travel along Parnell Road between Auckland's CBD and fringe suburbs on a regular timetable. Get off at The Jubilee Building / Parnell Community Centre stop.

Trains

Retina Specialists is about a 15 minute walk from both Newmarket (Western/Southern lines) and Grafton (Western line) Stations, although the walk from Newmarket is the easier, being a more level route to take.  The new Parnell Station is located below Cheshire Street in Parnell. This involves a steep climb either through The Domain (bush tracks only) or via Parnell Road to get to our practice.

Your appointment

You will be seen by a nurse or an optometrist, along with your doctor during your visit. We will measure your visual acuity and check your intraocular pressure. You will also have comprehensive multimodal imaging of your eyes using our state of the art equipment to ensure you receive the most accurate diagnosis and optimal care.

In most cases, your pupils will be dilated with eye drops which may blur your vision for up to 6 hours, and this can make driving difficult.

We commonly perform intravitreal injections and laser treatment in clinic. These procedures are virtually painless, and the vast majority of patients can travel home independently without any problems. However, it is advisable for you to bring a support person with you, if you are to receive a treatment for the first time.
